It was a dramatic quarter and finish to 2018. Beginning the fourth quarter of 2018, the S&P 500 was up 10.38% for the year. However, the last quarter was not kind to investors. For the year, the S&P 500 finished down 4.38%.1 There were a couple of record setting events that happened in the final weeks of trading. On Christmas Eve, the Dow was down 525 points, which was the worst Christmas Eve in history. Then, on December 26th, it rebounded 1020 points and set a record for the largest one- day point gain ever.
